I think we need to look at it from a new perspective. Why not use the phone as a tool for educational purposes. Instead of connecting resistors in parallel like we do in our labs.. Why not work on cell phones. See how they r built.. See how we can modify them and make them better... Begin an open source community where information can be shared.. I think the boon/bane is outdated. We need to move hand in hand with tech so we are better prepared for tomorrow.

I am sure Indian Politicians love watching cricket or any national sport as much as you and I, but, it is also true that they use big wins to project themselves as sports promoters... come out in public eye only when there is a win and use them as photo opportunity.  This is true of all Politicians in all countries by the way. Success has many fathers but failure is an orphan.

Kaveriyamma,

Do you think the politicians of India (including those in BCCI) are working
for the progress of India?

or are they just opportunists who have found a golden-egg-laying-goose
in cricket?

If BCCI is rich enough to give away such rewards, that is fine. They should also fund more cricket Academys to train youngsters in all States of India.

I think monitory rewards to deserving players will stop abuses like match-fixing participation indulged by some cricketers in bygone years. Match-fixing benifitted underground orgs and criminals working against progress in India.

I agree with pradeep, BCCI should be giving a prize money of 10 million dollars !
